The Invitation as a Speaker
I received an invitation from Taylor’s University College as a speaker to talk about entrepreneurship last week. The event titled "Cradle Commercialisation Workshop at Taylor’s University College" is jointly organized by Taylor’s University College and Cradle on the May 2010.
The invitation surprised me. It is a very kind offer from Taylor’s. And I really appreciated that. A lot.
For the moment that I received the email, I felt an unknown force of motivation spirit just came into me. I am glad. However, I rejected the offer. First of all, I have never thought of becoming a speaker. Secondly, I had a very broken English. The major factor for me to reject the offer would be my personal intention, the intention of building a more strong and sustainable company this year. I hope to try as a speaker one day, to encourage more entrepreneurs in Malaysia, allowing people to worshiped me on the stage (:P), and I bet it will be fun and entertaining with some stage fear.
When that day comes that I could become a speaker, it would be where I am at my most comfortable level with my career and my company.

You should go for it. Haha
Anyway, I’m glad to hear that you are invited.
Hey! You should have just grab the opportunity. Never mind the broken English or being an unpolished speaker. It just goes to show that strategies, ideas and the drive to succeed is just as important if not more important that being on able to speak well.
Frankly, I’ve once invited some speakers to speak to a crowd of students and those speakers don’t speak very good English too. It’s a norm.
And you’re a perfect candidate to speak at such events because what students need to hear is from entrepreneurs who are going through their early days of struggles, not those that have been there done that and only talks about greatness of entrepreneurship.
You’re a good role model of courage, passion and tenacity in entrepreneurship.
Hi,
I was attracted to your post about our locally rejected student who turned out to be internationally recognized USB founder. That was truly a tragic to our country. Thanks for the eye-opener
i myself was in the similar position as you (though i’ve never been invited as speaker ;P) of telling myself to be a speaker once i am comfortable and achieved something in my career. yet, i realized i need platform, guidance and support to be there which in turn helps in my career as well along the way. Aspire and be inspired at the same time
